There ist a definition problem to decide the correctly skysraper high.
You remember the differences between Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur and the Sears Tower in Chicago. The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat in Chicago has in 1996 to decide and now the naked (structural) building was the winner and not the building with topping features.
For that reason: The wished tall of 800+ for Burj Dubai Skyscraper is it the tall with or without pylon(s)?
// edit
I repaired my little mistake in the topic
(old: Definition-Problems für "How tall is it going to be?&qu ;
correctly: Definition-Problems für "How tall is it going to be?) _________________ I feel sometimes a little bit skyscraper excitement

| Spire counts, antenna does not. Burj Dubai is going to have a spire. |

Okay. Well, what´s the thought length (tallness) of the spire part and what will be inside the spire? I can´t imagine. But surely it will be "structural" because it´s important for the indisputable tallness.
Do you think it will have at first disputs regarding a different skyscraper size in measuring the high (between the owner and friends of of Burj Dubai against some strange ingeneers because there is a spire)? _________________ I feel sometimes a little bit skyscraper excitement |

No answers?
I hope the admin or an other person will give an answer to this questions
I think it´s of interrest for the forum.
And my question to the spire:
how many meters has the cross-section of the spire near its basic? |

| We dont know much about the spire, there is no exact height of the building, so obviously no data for the length of the spire either. |

Hello there all..
I am new in this thread of course, the earlier recordbreaking was long time surpassed by the Taipei 101 building.
And also still confused too.
I agreed with what many people in doubt about the declaration of world's tallest building for the Petronas Twin Towers.In earlier stage, there were some hints with several question marks especially when it comes to the spire.In my personal point of view,the number of floors that counts and should be an actual criteria.. The fact is Petronas Towers only consists 88 number of floors and truly, number of actual floor in the construction master plan that I've seen at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Town and Sub-Urban Planning Dept office, it was only 85-storeys. _________________ Aidil

We have to think in reality ! the answer is..for the spire, it's only a structure.NOT a building ! Very simple arithmetic..
Most people would think the same way that any structural object (sculpture or a mast for instance) are not considered as part of a building.In terms of by measurement in metres by sea level,instead of looking to the building height at the very beginning from the ground floor and up to the top occupied floor. *A helipad perhaps
All parties in the world had debated on this issue in the first place.Many people in Malaysia as well used to talked about it especially when it was the time that our last politians,leaders inaugurably made it disputable. _________________ Aidil

Welcome here Aidil,
I agree with you about the measurements. The main difference imho between the spire and the antenna is, that inside the spire there can be a staircase, unlike in an antenna.
It's nice that you live in Kuala Lumpur, if you have photos of the Petronas Towers you could upload them here, i would open a thread. |

But look to:

You can see that a floor in one building is not the same as a floor in another building!

Wowowowowwwwww Burj Dubai Tower are extremely,very very very tall supertall structure ever built on planet !!
So,burj I am sure I'll look at to the upcoming thread for the Petroanas Twin Towers and I'll try to sent you the images.I am going to get a new digital camera of mind for photo shoots of my family members and the panoramic view of Petronas Towers at glance from the Kuala Lumpur Tower. _________________ Aidil

Rolf ! I agreed with you that in earlier time the declaration of the world's tallest building title shall goes to Sears & Roebuck Tower in Chicago.
Sense will tell us that the Sears Tower are taller than the Petronas Twin Towers !
The fact is the fact...that we must accept the truth facts.Logically, Sears Tower height in terms of number of floors are more than the Twin Towers.
In-fact, the actual number of floors for Petronas Towers are much lower i.e, 85-storey.* Only a matter fact that the skybridge that located on level 41 and 40th are remained the world's highest until present. _________________ Aidil
