Burj Dubai has been on tv in Australia.
Australia has already been notified and informed of this mindblowing, Burj Dubai project. It was broadcasted on television on the 'Getaway' show (a tourism show) early last year on the episode dedicated to Dubai. It featured a small interview with lead Architect Adrian Smith and it talked about the Burj Dubai becoming the tallest tower in the world and the whole Downtown project in General. Now looking back at the episode about 11 months ago, the Burj was only a mere 40 to 55 meters tall. How the tower has grown so much in such little time - simply amazing! _________________ Engineering to Glory |

The Austria newspaper "Der Standard" showed a online picture of Burj Dubai towards the sun
But there is written, "Täglich kommen drei Stockwerke dazu", thinking "three new storeys adding daily".

Very rapid now! An intensificationr factor twelve. So the Austrian will have some informations, they will finish the rest of Bury Dubai till February this year? And we didn´t know it until today ... _________________ I feel sometimes a little bit skyscraper excitement |

Clearly.
One new storey every 4 days unequivocal!
I told the abstract (and the factor twelve!) with the ulterior motive to have a great fun by reading ... _________________ I feel sometimes a little bit skyscraper excitement |

Discovery Channel program was incredible, even though it was filmed way back in the summer and fall. My first impression, I am astounded that BD even grows at the rate it does!
First of all, it looks like there are a lot of different countries at work here, UAE, US, South Korea, Italy and not all speak each others languages so fluently...and more...the workers in Dubai seem to be somewhat inexperienced. I hope all this doesn’t retard the tower's growth. I had no idea that cinder blocks are not used in other countries…this is something that construction workers are not accustomed to. I hope they have gotten used to it already.
Wall on the 16th floor was out of plumb…and it needed to be straightened out. At that point in construction the 16th floor was the half point of the building. Could this problem have caused the recent cracks on the 17th? Possible…
We, the viewers, got a good run over the cladding problems. Everyone approves of the design so it is definitely NOT a design issue. Why is it not going up?? Well, I’ll tell you. The cladding needed to be tested for environmental issues…air and water penetration, wind, stress. Those tests succeeded but they dragged on and on. Then a whole room was completed in order to test the façade in real conditions, it started to streak under a high sun and it couldn’t take the extreme heat in Dubai. Parenthetically, it’s also known that the façade is holding up the completion of the interior because gypsum board can’t take the heat. The curtain wall was rebuilt and retested in late summer…delaying it by five months. There was also a change in suppliers. I hope we see the final product going up by April. Postponement is probably irritating the contractors more than it annoys us so they are working AFAP.
Poor workmen, they are under pressure really really work hard to stay on schedule…they are men to be admired. The rebar was getting too hot during the summer to work on schedule…so during the fall the workers must have hauled maaajor ass to make 100 by new years...and succeed they did. Right now, the foremen are taking advantage of the cooler winter temperatures to move as fast as possible. There is no doubt in my mind. The flesh frying sun will be back over Dubai in a few months and construction progress is likely to suffer somewhat, well in my opinion anyway.
The design changes seem to be just another part of this project that slows down construction. Every time there is another height change, the building needs to be braced with heavy steel. This is comforting because even if there are cracks…steel could probably solve the problem. Also, it means that BD might be as high as some of us hope it will be…but we will just have to see how high it is by this time next this year…
By November, no new problems were showing up and Burj Dubai construction steamed ahead from four day cycles, to three day cycles. Also as the tower rises, less rebar is needed and speeds up floor building. |

How do you count the done floors: the three completed floor(s) of the Y or the completed floor of the "central tower" (in the middle with the cranes)? _________________ I feel sometimes a little bit skyscraper excitement |

Okay.
You're right. Sorry. Then I wanted to hear, how do they count the done floors:
- they count the three completed floor(s) of the Y after finishing
- or they count already the completed floor of the "central tower" (in the middle with the cranes)? _________________ I feel sometimes a little bit skyscraper excitement |

I tried to see the floor number on the highest floors, but I didn't see it in the latest pictures. Can you please give the link to the specific picture? (the one with the 108 mark) |

Not on the last photos, but before on Altin's photos you could see, and since Jan. 25 when it was at lvl 106, 8 days passed. Every 3,1 day there is a new floor, so its soon at 109. This is an answer to Steev as well. |

The burj is so huge now it's hard to notice change on a weekly basis. Watching that Discovery Channel program, the synopsis is above, has made me remember how it used to be. Back in spring last year, it was so easy and exciting to see a new floor being poured.
Watching the progress of this tower on a daily basis these days is getting very dull. A month now adds only another +/- 10% to its height. I can't wait till something REALLY exciting happens, i mean real milestones, like taking over the sears tower, reaching 500m, beating the KVLY. It aches to wait for those milestones ya know?? I'm going to try to forget about the BD for a while (yes I know it is hard to part from a loved one) and then report on the effect. If I succeed for a few weeks and then suddenly remember to look at the updates, the high from experiencing the change in the tower is going to be InCrEdIbLe!!! |
